What was once considered fodder for nerds has become the nucleus of the triumphant rise of geek culture. These two intellectual properties have permeated society so thoroughly that words and terms from them have entered the public lexicon, and symbols they originated are as familiar as traffic lights.
Christopher came up through the ranks in the wardrobe department and quickly became one of the industry’s top Costume Supervisors. In 1999, Michael Mann recognized Christopher’s talent and promoted him to Associate Costume Designer on “The Insider” (Al Pacino, Russell Crowe), and Christopher has been designing films ever since. Some of the credits that followed were “The Anniversary Party” (Gwyneth Paltrow, Kevin Kline), “Showtime” (Robert De Niro, Eddie Murphy) and “S.W.A.T.” (Colin Farrell, Samuel L. Jackson). Learn More
The Star Wars universe quickly became part of the collective landscape. In the decades since many people have written themselves into Joseph Campbell’s monomyth—the broad concept that myths, folk tales, and religious stories from all over the world share unifying themes. Her own hero’s journey brought costume designer Suttirat Larlarb to the project after having honed her craft on projects like American Gods and the latest Bond film, No Time to Die.
Deborah L. Scott’s costume designs are more than movie history—they are Americana. Twenty-six years ago, Titanic became a global phenomenon and earned her an Academy Award ®. The Costume Designers Guild is proud to recognize her with the 2023 Career Achievement Award.
